Treking

A collaborative travel platform

APP

What

A collaborative travel platform that enables the user to create, share and discover new hiking trails.

Why

Many travelers around the globe discover new routes every day.
Those routes mostly not capture in real-time or even after. Trekking gives them an easy and user-friendly way to record their treks and share it, so they can go back there in the future or share it with other trekkers.

How

The user reports the app while he starts a new route. The app tracks him with GPS. At the end of his route, the traveler reports that he completed his journey and his new route goes up to the platform and is saved to his personal account.

Research, potential users and the design process

During the UX research, we started by defining and investigating potential users and their environments. we were inspired by the worlds of professional and amateur travelers, from the physical types of equipment that identify with them to their basic technical needs. We created two key potential users and characterized them and their needs, and made a journey map of both users.

+ User A - The ultimate hiker who travels frequently, curious about discovering new places and loves to share his experiences with friends and community.

+ User B - The Observer hiker who likes to travel more conservatively, by looking for known routes on the internet or by personal recommendations

We have defined that the platform will be the ultimate platform to choose a route and take a walk in a simple, inspiring way, one that both types of users will find themselves in.

We made a pre-research about the world of hikers (also user A and B), their basic needs, the information they consume on such a trip, the colors that identified with their world and which apps or websites they use while they plan their next travel.

After we profiled the basic needs we asked potential users to rate the importance of different features from a list which they think is common and important on such a platform. we conclude the answers into the UI design and into the UX hierarchy.
